Flight + half a day in Madrid + late train
Tamara — travel dayLands 13:10 at T4 (gates at the T4S satellite — 3-min driverless shuttle to T4, then passport control). Heads up: this flight averaged a ~69-min delay recently, so the plan below has slack built in.
Fixed fare, ~25 min, no surcharges. (Cercanías C-1 is cheaper but slower and doesn't reliably run to Atocha — protect the afternoon.)
Paseo de la Reina Cristina 12 — 4 min from Atocha, 24/7 automated lockers, ~€10.90/day large bag, insured.
Calle Santa Isabel 5, 8-min walk. Gastro stalls serve continuously 12:30–23:30, indoors and cool — perfect at 35°C. Closed Sundays, but today's Friday.

Stroll Calle Huertas to Plaza Santa Ana, then stand at the bar of Casa Alberto (est. 1827), Calle Huertas 18 — house vermouth on tap. No table needed.

Swim, volleyball courts, promenade. Sea is 27° — basically a bath.
Festinar (Dr. Lluch 46): random rotating pizzas, cool terrace, cheapest place on the friend-list. Or walk the promenade to La Más Bonita on Patacona.
From the Marina (20-min walk south): 30-min jet ski around Malvarrosa bay + paddle surf, €95–120 for the combo, or 1 h jet ski €140. No licence needed, photos included. 4.8★ from 323 reviews — June '26 reviewers all 5★. Get the price in writing on WhatsApp (+34 685 099 910).
Barrel-lined bodega in the old fishermen's quarter, 5-min walk. Marinated bluefin tuna, titaina, world-class Valencian wine list. 4.5★ (2,641 reviews), #97 of 4,000+ in the city — the hardest table of the week, book before anything else. Tasting menus €39–48.
Open-air club under the City of Arts palms. Free before midnight (€25 after) — but the pre-00:00 queue is huge, so arrive by 23:15 or after 01:00. Dress smart: door staff are famously picky about trainers/shorts.

Carrer de la Barraca 25 — own-roast specialty coffee, big terrace, try the orange coffee soda. Open weekends from 09:30.
~20 min by taxi (or EMT bus 25 from the centre). White sand, pine forest, dunes, a fraction of Malvarrosa's crowds. Garrofera is the quietest stretch.

Deep work while Tamara's on the clock

Cheap, friendly neighbourhood almuerzo bar. Pan con tomate breakfast-all-day energy.
Wrap by 17:30 so you're on the sand when Tamara logs off.
Med waves are small and schools only run surf when there's swell — they slot you in by WhatsApp. Message both on arrival day with your dates: Surf Las Arenas +34 678 718 171 (4.8★, reservation required) and Ocean Republik +34 601 205 327 (group 1.5h €30pp, private €50/h). Flat sea → they run SUP instead, which is guaranteed.
Seafood tapas in a tiled modernist Cabanyal house, Calle de la Reina 173 — basically at home. Ask for a late slot with no table-turn behind you; portions are refined rather than huge. (Líndala closes Mondays.)
Market browsing and a proper show

On the water before work
Tamara works 10:00–18:00Sunrise over the sea at 07:03. Options: Anywhere Watersports at the Marina (SUP rental from €15, sunrise paddle from €20–25) — or SupSkull's sunset/sunrise SUP in the Albufera park (€25 incl. breakfast, needs a group of 5, +34 633 046 000). Ride the seafront path through Patacona into horchata's home village. Order it granizada with fartons for dunking. Dalí used to drink here. ~€5 for the full ritual.

Recovery pace after last night. La Pascuala esmorzaret (~11:00) if you surface hungry — it's open all August, no vacation, ever.
The one landmark still unticked. Oceanogràfic (Europe's biggest aquarium) is €36–43 and needs ~4h — only if you're keen; otherwise the free architecture walk + reflecting-pool photos.
Pick Tamara up straight after work — leave by 19:30 latest.

Patacona (10-min bike north) — the hip end: five chiringuitos on the sand till 23:00, La Más Bonita for brunch.
El Saler / La Garrofera (20-min taxi or bus 25) — dunes, pine forest, the quiet you can't get in the city. Garrofera has boardwalks + lifeguards but a fraction of the people.
Port Saplaya — pastel canal village, ride the coastal bike path there for lunch. Weekends get busy.
Beach rhythm: 07:00–11:00 and 18:30–21:00. Locals hide from 13:00–17:00 — copy them.
Jardín del Turia — free, always open. Bike it east and pop out at the City of Arts; blue hour at the reflecting pools ~21:30 is the photo.
Jardín de Monforte — neoclassical marble garden with a bougainvillea "tunnel of love", 10:30–20:00, free. Peak couple content.
Viveros (Jardines del Real) — 07:30–21:30, next to the open-air cinema, ideal pre-film picnic.
Bikes: a week's shop rental is ~€65 (Good Ride, locks + baskets incl.) — better than Valenbisi's 30-min hop limit for beach runs.
